You will gain an understanding of geology by looking at the physical structure and substance of the Earth, its history, and the processes which act on it. You will do this primarily through the study of rocks and the current physical processes on Earth.
This course includes significant fieldwork as well as laboratory work and you will study topics such as minerals, rocks, fossils and geochronology, global tectonics, geological structures, economic geology and engineering geology. This A-level will open up opportunities for you to progress to university or pursue a career in geology or areas such as hydrology, environmental science, oil and mining, civil engineering, astronomy and botany.
