UTC@harbourside Governing Body

The Governors of UTC@harbourside have secured agreement from the Department of Education that their contract to run the UTC will be terminated in August 2019.

The UTC has not been able to recruit enough students to become financially stable and to deliver fully on its educational vision. The decision to terminate was a very difficult and hugely disappointing decision for Governors to make.

The college will remain open for a further year from September 2018 so that students in years 11 and 13 can successfully complete their courses by July 2019. Governors are committed to ensuring that current students are provided with the right support to ensure that they have a positive and successful final year and are ready for their future education and employment.

The Governors have been working closely with the Acting Principal and school leaders to ensure that all the issues identified in the Ofsted inspection are being addressed promptly and effectively. We know that many improvements have already been made and we will be monitoring progress throughout the year.

During September and October the Secretary of State for Education will be asking for views about next steps for the Harbourside building. It is our hope that a more successful future can be secured which will promote the very best educational opportunities for young people in the area and support the regeneration of Newhaven.
