The English Department aims to provide students with a lively, varied, accessible yet ambitious curriculum. We encourage students to become critical readers of both fiction and non-fiction texts, whilst supporting their development into confident, articulate speakers. In the year 2017/18, we have trips planned to poetry live in Brighton as well as a performance of An Inspector Calls in London.

In Year 10 and Y11, students prepare for GCSE English Language Paper One (19th C Fiction and producing Imaginative writing), GCSE English Language Paper Two (Reading Non-Fiction texts and producing transactional writing) as well as for GCSE English Literature Paper One (Shakespeare and Nineteenth Century Fiction) and GCSE English Literature Paper Two (Post 1914 British Play and Poetry). They also prepare a talk for the Speaking and Listening Assessment.

We currently follow the AQA English Language and English Literature syllabus.
