James Lavender – Principal Fire Engineer, BRE Global
James Lavender graduated from Brunel University London with an MSc, Building Services Engineering and a BSc, Forest Products Technology and is a chartered engineer. He has been a practicing fire safety engineering consultant for over 15 years. Through this period he has undertaken many research projects for individual clients or HM Government as well as undertaking a significant number of building and fire safety surveys.
As the Principal Fire Safety Engineer at BRE he has is responsible for delivering an income stream within the business. This not only considers the day to day delivery of the work but also includes strategic business planning, workload and resource management. As the team leader and head of the business stream, he has to manage a team and fellow colleagues as well as clients and their expectations.
He represents the Institution of Fire Engineers, as part of their TSAG (Technical Standards Advisory Group), on the British Standards Fire Safety Committee. He was involved in the authoring of the latest HM Government guidance for fire safety design in healthcare premises.
