Entrepreneurship provides context for the learning of core subjects and is integrated into all areas of UTC life. We focus on the development of entrepreneurial qualities, rather than only teaching business skills. These qualities include:

  • Passion
  • Determination
  • Risk-taking
  • Problem-solving
  • Teamwork
  • Creativity

These feed into lessons, activities such as after-school clubs, the rewards system and into work with the broader community. All students have the opportunity to take part in entrepreneurial-related activity within and outside of the formal curriculum. These are based on a ‘learning through doing’ approach, ensuring that the real world is brought into the classroom, and the classroom is taken out into the real world.

Through high levels of engagement with real employers and in real businesses students gain a significant insight into how companies work in practice – from large international organisations, to small and medium enterprises. Most critically students learn from professionals in business and industry – not just teachers. We believe that this provides a much greater depth to understanding business in practice.
